Magic City Boxing / Our Mission
Every kid needs a corner.
Magic City Boxing Athletic Club is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit boxing gym at 6969 Hanging Moss Road in East Orlando. We are not here to turn a profit. We are here to build people.
Why a boxing gym, and why a nonprofit
A boxing gym asks something of you that most places do not. You have to show up when you do not feel like it. You have to be corrected in front of other people and come back the next day anyway. You have to learn that the work is the point. Those are not boxing lessons. They are the lessons boxing happens to be very good at teaching.
We are structured as a nonprofit because the young people who need that most are frequently the ones whose families cannot absorb another monthly bill. A gym run for profit has to turn those families away. We do not have to, and we do not.
Nobody is turned away from the youth program for money alone. If a family cannot cover training, we ask them to tell us rather than quietly disappear.
Where the money goes
Every dollar from memberships, programs and donations goes back into the mission. In practice that means coaching hours, keeping the doors open six days a week, equipment that young athletes do not have to buy for themselves, and scholarship places in the youth program.
Contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Our EIN is 99-1301816.
What we actually do
- Youth mentorship, on and off the floor. Coaching built for young athletes rather than a scaled down adult class, with discipline, confidence and mentorship alongside the boxing.
- Scholarships for families who cannot cover training.
- A safe room in East Orlando, open six days a week, where showing up is the habit we are trying to build.
- Coaches who came up in the sport and stayed in it, certified with USA Boxing.
- A competitive team for the athletes who want to test it in a ring.
Adults train here too, and that is part of the model
Adult memberships and our private performance program are what keep the lights on between grants and donations. When an adult pays for a class here, they are not only buying a workout. They are underwriting a seat for a young athlete in the same building.
